Super visa for your parents

Bring your parents and grandparents to Canada for extended visits with our expert Super Visa assistance

What is the difference between a visitor visa and a super visa

A regular Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa) allows most visitors to come to Canada for short stays, typically up to 6 months at a time, for tourism, family visits, or business. A Super Visa, on the other hand, is designed specifically for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents and can allow them to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit, with a visa that may be valid for up to 10 years. Super Visa applicants must also meet additional requirements, such as proof of medical insurance and a minimum income requirement from their child or grandchild in Canada.

We offer consultations on Super Visa applications, full document review of your prepared package, or complete application preparation and submission on your behalf. Contact me to learn more about the Parents and Grandparents Super Visa and the Canadian entry visa process.

When a regular visitor visa may be preferred for parents and grandparents

Choosing between a regular Visitor Visa and a Super Visa depends on your family’s travel plans, financial situation, and long-term goals. While the Super Visa is attractive because it allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit, it is not always the best or necessary option. In some cases, a regular Visitor Visa (TRV) may be more suitable. For example:

Short, occasional visits

If your parents or grandparents only plan to visit Canada for a few weeks or months (for a family event, birth of a grandchild, graduation, or a short holiday), a regular Visitor Visa is often sufficient.

Difficulty meeting super visa requirements

Super Visa applications have stricter requirements, such as:

  • Proof of minimum income from the child/grandchild in Canada
  • Private medical insurance from a Canadian insurer for at least one year
  • Additional documentation to show support and financial capacity

If these conditions are hard to meet, a regular Visitor Visa may be more realistic.

Parents or grandparents not ready for long stays

Some parents or grandparents may prefer shorter trips or feel uncomfortable being away from home for long periods. In those situations, a regular TRV aligns better with their actual travel plans.

Existing multi-entry visitor visa already in place

If your parents or grandparents already hold a valid multiple-entry Visitor Visa that allows them to come to Canada for up to 6 months at a time, it may make sense to use that visa rather than applying for a Super Visa, especially if they only visit occasionally.

If you’re unsure which option is best for your parents or grandparents, you’re welcome to book a consultation, and we can talk through the options together.

What our clients say

M

Maria C.

"I took two consultations from Bulantseva Immigration Consulting. Tamara provided very professional advice for me, which helped me follow the proper steps to sponsor my mom. Even though I ended up applying by myself, Tamara's review of my case and recommendations helped me to avoid mistakes. Now that my mother's case is in process, she always finds time for me and is ready to answer any questions that I have."
